Ottawa Property Tax "Gift" Under Their Christmas Tree for 2006

Ottawa homeowners will find a 3.9% property tax increase for 2006. Council Clive Doucet believes Ottawa residents could have afforded a higher property tax increase.
Also several owners of the city's most expensive homes will pay less in property taxes this year than last:
Marlen and Michael Cowpland - from $12,548,000 to $11,815,000 (-6%)
Hugh Boyle - from $3,397,000 to $2,838,000 (-16%)
Stephen and Sandra Assaly - from $3,766,000 to $3,339,000 (-11%)
Bill Malhotra - from $3,951,000 to $3,668,000 (-7%)
Michael Potter - $8,603,000 - unchanged (0%) lucky :)
Kenneth Loeb - from $3,122,000 to $3, 061,000 (-2%)
Carol Ann Salemi - from $3,090,000 to $2,872,000 (-7%)

In some cases, reductions in Rockcliffe assessments were due to successful appeals by homeowners of their last assessments, which reflected market values on June 30, 2003.
