$100,000 Found During Renovations at Former Home of Biker Gang Leader

A couple renovating their newly acquired house in the Pointe du Lac neighbourhood recently made an unexpected discovery in the bathroom, finding $100,000 in cash stashed in the ceiling.

As it turns out, the home belonged to the leader of the local chapter of the Hells Angels biker gang. The house was seized by police in 2004 as part of a widespread crackdown on biker gangs.

Police are still looking for the home's former owner, Marc-Andre Hinse.

The couple immediately turned over the money, which was found in stacks of $20 bills, to local authorities.

In 1997 Marc-Andre Hinse, an 18-year-old student from Brassard, Que., was sitting across from Claire Lamarche when she fainted.

Claire Lamarche's name will probably always be linked to the derailed French-language debate in the 1997 election campaign.

Prime Minister Jean Chretien issued a statement offering Lamarche "my sincerest wishes for a speedy recovery."
