Trends show that the gap between rich and poor is widening in Ottawa, and is greater in our city than the national average.

The number of people using Ottawa's food banks, which increased by nearly 3, 000 people in just two years, reaching 38, 691 in 2005.

The city is fairing "relatively well" when it comes to its supply of affordable and accessible housing, but the number of people using shelters is rising.
